This disorder is a mental health condition that is marked by a mix of schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, and mood disorder symptoms, such as depression, mania and a milder form of mania called hypomania.
Schizoaffective disorder includes a mix of psychotic symptoms (like in schizophrenia) and mood symptoms (like depression or mania).
Psychotic Symptoms (Schizophrenia-like)
Hallucinations: Hearing, seeing, or feeling things that aren’t real (e.g., voices)
Delusions: Strong false beliefs (e.g., paranoia, feeling watched, or having special powers)
Disorganized Speech/Thoughts: Jumping from topic to topic; hard to understand or follow
Strange or Rigid Behavior: Acting unusually, being very agitated or completely still (catatonia)
Negative Symptoms: Lack of emotion, low motivation, limited speech, or withdrawing from others Mood Symptoms (Depressive or Bipolar features)
Depression:
Ongoing sadness or emptiness
Low energy or fatigue
Loss of interest in normal activities
Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
Thoughts of death or suicide
Mania:
Very high or irritable mood
Increased energy and fast speech
Racing thoughts
Impulsive or risky behavior
Decreased need for sleep
