A neurological disorder of excessive time spent sleeping or excessive sleepiness. It can have many possible causes and can cause distress and problems with functioning.
• Anxiety, irritability
• Constant or repeated episodes of extreme sleepiness during the day
• Decreased energy
• Difficulty waking up in the morning or after daytime naps (“sleep drunkenness”)
• Feeling confused or angry when waking up
• Hallucinations
• Headaches
• Loss of appetite
• Memory problems
• Restlessness
• Sleep paralysis
• Sleeping much longer than usual (11 hours or more) but still feeling very sleepy and having trouble staying awake during the day
• Daytime naps not making you feel more alert or rested
• Trouble focusing or concentrating
