Acute stress disorder (ASD) is a mental health condition that can develop after a traumatic event and lasts for a limited period, typically 3 days to 1 month
Intrusive thoughts or memories:
Recurrent and distressing memories of the traumatic event, often accompanied by flashbacks or nightmares.
Avoidance:
Efforts to avoid thoughts, feelings, situations, or reminders of the trauma.
Negative mood:
Persistent negative emotions, such as sadness, anger, or fear, and a reduced ability to experience positive emotions.
Dissociation:
Feeling detached from one’s body, surroundings, or emotions.
Increased arousal:
Difficulty sleeping, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and an exaggerated startle response.
