Postpartum Depression

A mood disorder that can affect women after childbirth, causing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, and fatigue. It’s more intense and longer-lasting than the “baby blues,” a common experience for new mothers that typically resolves within a couple of weeks. PPD can interfere with a woman’s ability to care for herself and her baby and may require treatment.

Symptoms can include depressed mood, severe mood swings, excessive crying, difficulty bonding with the baby, withdrawing from loved ones, changes in appetite or sleep, overwhelming fatigue, loss of interest in enjoyable activities, irritability, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty concentrating, and in severe cases, thoughts of harming oneself or the baby.
