Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

This is characterized by persistent, excessive, and uncontrollable worry about everyday things, often for at least six months. Individuals with GAD may experience physical symptoms like muscle tension, fatigue, and sleep disturbances, along with difficulty concentrating and irritability.                                                                                                      GAD is one of the most common anxiety disorders, with Canadian data suggesting that about 1 in 12 individuals will experience it at some point in their life according to the Canadian Psychological Association.

Excessive Worry:

GAD involves a pervasive and disproportionate worry about various aspects of life, such as work, school, finances, health, or social interactions.

Difficulty Controlling Worry:

Individuals with GAD struggle to manage their worrying thoughts and often find them intrusive and difficult to stop, even when they realize the worry is excessive.

Physical Symptoms:

GAD can manifest with physical symptoms like muscle tension, restlessness, fatigue, sleep problems (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep), trembling or twitching, and gastrointestinal issues.

Impact on Daily Life:

The excessive worry and physical symptoms associated with GAD can significantly interfere with daily functioning, impacting work, school, social life, and relationships.
